ArtMap Workshop
ArtMap Workshop is a client-side Fabric mod designed to make creating artwork with ArtMap easier, more accurate, and more accessible.
Instead of simply displaying a reference image on the screen, ArtMap Workshop projects a pixel guide directly onto the detected ItemFrame in the Minecraft world. The overlay stays attached to the canvas in 3D space and follows the correct perspective as you move or rotate your camera.
The goal of this project is to provide a comfortable painting workflow for everyone, including players who may have difficulty distinguishing colors, locating individual pixels, or working with large and complicated images.
✨ Main Features
🖼️ Image Import and Preparation
Import your own PNG, JPG, or JPEG images directly from the ArtMap Workshop image folder.
The mod can automatically prepare images for ArtMap's 32×32 canvas system.
Available resize modes include:
- Transparent padding
- Aspect-ratio preserving resize
- Stretch to the nearest 32-pixel multiple
Large images can also be automatically divided into multiple 32×32 canvases.
🎨 ArtMap Palette Conversion
Imported images are converted to the closest available colors in the configured ArtMap palette.
Each pixel can provide information such as:
- Palette number
- Color name
- Required painting method
- Pixel coordinates
- Completion status
This means you do not have to identify every color visually.
The palette data is stored separately so it can be refined and updated as more accurate color measurements become available.
🧱 ItemFrame Canvas Detection
Look at the ArtMap canvas and press C.
ArtMap Workshop detects the ItemFrame being used as the painting canvas and uses it as the reference surface for the overlay.
🌐 Perspective-Correct 3D Overlay
The painting guide is rendered directly in Minecraft's 3D world.
Unlike a normal screen overlay, the guide remains attached to the detected canvas.
You can:
- Move left or right
- Move closer or farther away
- Look at the canvas from an angle
- Rotate your camera
and the overlay will continue to follow the canvas perspective.
Overlay depth can also be adjusted so the guide remains visible when an ArtMap canvas has thickness in front of the ItemFrame.
🎯 Crosshair Pixel Guidance
You do not need to manually move a separate cursor across the 32×32 grid.
Simply aim your Minecraft crosshair at a pixel on the overlay.
ArtMap Workshop automatically determines which pixel you are looking at and displays its information on the HUD.
For example:
Pixel 14, 7
Palette 023 — Grass Green
Painting instruction: Coal ×1
This allows you to work naturally by simply looking at the pixel you want to paint.
✅ Manual Pixel Completion
ArtMap Workshop intentionally does not automatically mark pixels as completed.
After painting a pixel and confirming that it is correct, press X.
The pixel will then be recorded as completed.
If you mark the wrong pixel by mistake, press Z to undo it.
This manual confirmation system is designed to improve accuracy while still making progress tracking convenient.
📊 Progress Tracking
ArtMap Workshop can keep track of your painting progress.
The HUD can display:
- Current canvas
- Current work color
- Remaining pixels for that color
- Aimed pixel coordinates
- Palette information
- Painting instructions
- Pixel completion status
- Overall progress
Progress is saved so you can leave the game and continue your artwork later.
🎨 Color-Focused Workflow
You can focus on one ArtMap color at a time.
For example:
Palette 023 — Grass Green
Remaining: 47 pixels
The overlay can display only the pixels that require the currently selected color.
Once those pixels are finished, you can move to the next color.
This can significantly reduce unnecessary switching between painting materials.
🔍 Multiple Work Modes
ArtMap Workshop provides several ways to display the painting guide:
- Full canvas
- Current row
- Current color
- Unfinished pixels
- Current pixel
Choose whichever workflow is most comfortable for your artwork.
♿ Accessibility
Accessibility is one of the main goals of ArtMap Workshop.
Color Vision Accessibility
Players do not need to rely solely on visual color recognition.
When aiming at a pixel, ArtMap Workshop provides written information such as:
- Palette number
- Color name
- Painting instructions
- Pixel coordinates
- Completion status
- Remaining-pixel count
This allows players to identify and reproduce colors through text-based information rather than relying only on the visual appearance of each color.
This feature is intended to assist players with color-vision differences, as well as anyone who finds it difficult to distinguish similar ArtMap colors.
⚙️ Simple Tabbed Interface
Press F9 to open the ArtMap Workshop interface.
Settings are separated into four categories:
Image
Image selection, image folder access, and 32×32 preparation.
Work
Canvas detection, work modes, color selection, and progress controls.
Accessibility
Visibility and accessibility assistance.
Settings
Overlay opacity, depth, HUD, grid, and rendering options.
The F9 menu is primarily intended for setup.
During normal painting, most interaction can be done directly through the crosshair and keyboard shortcuts.
