DropTimer

Dropped items now show a live countdown above them and disappear when it hits zero. Great for keeping servers clean and giving players a clear "grab it or lose it" signal.

Features

• Floating timer above every dropped item, using text displays (no armor stands, no extra mobs)
• Per-world timers: different time for lobby, survival, duels, or no timer at all
• Different timers by item source: thrown (Q key), player death, mobs, mined blocks, fishing, other
• Item filter: blacklist items or give materials their own lifetime, with wildcards like *_SHULKER_BOX
• Color by time left: green, then yellow, then red
• Optional progress bar, item name and stack size, all configurable
• Hidden behind blocks by default, or visible through walls with one option
• Stays readable: fullbright text, no background, vertical billboard so the height doesn't jump when you look up or down
• Smart merging: stacks with and without a timer never merge, and merged stacks keep the shorter time
• Covers all drops or only items players throw, your choice
• Bypass permission for staff or specific players
• Cleans up its labels on reload and shutdown, nothing is left behind in the world

Note: Vanilla item despawn (5 minutes by default) still applies. Timers longer than 300 seconds will be cut short by it, unless you raise item-despawn-rate in spigot.yml.

Sources: thrown, death, mob, block, fishing, other.

Permissions

Players with the * permission also have droptimer.bypass. Set use-bypass-permission: false in the config to disable bypass.

Configuration

Everything is in plugins/DropTimer/config.yml, with comments for every option. Example:

Note: commands that change the config rewrite config.yml, which removes its comments.

Requirements

• Minecraft 1.21 or newer, Java 21
• Paper (also Purpur and Pufferfish) or Spigot
• No other plugins needed
• Folia is not supported
• Item names are translated per player on Paper only. On Spigot they are shown in English.

Installation

1. Download the Paper jar for Paper and its forks, or the Spigot jar for Spigot
2. Drop it into plugins/ and restart the server
3. Edit plugins/DropTimer/config.yml and run /droptimer reload https://discord.gg/3dfsaG6pRk
