FoxHardened

FoxHardened

FoxHardened adds an opt-in hardmode to Minecraft servers. Nearby monsters get stronger as a player's hardmode playtime grows, gaining extra health and damage, and they pay out money rewards.

FoxHardened is a Paper plugin for Minecraft 1.21.8 that makes survival more challenging. Monsters grow stronger the longer a player has spent in hardmode, and a thirst system adds a hydration layer to survival.

Features

🧟 Playtime-scaled monsters

  • Nearby monsters gain levels based on the hardmode playtime of players around them. Total server playtime is not used.
  • Each level adds +25% max health and +15% attack damage (configurable).
  • One level is earned every 180 minutes of hardmode playtime (configurable).
  • Mobs spawned near spawners stay unlevelled (default radius: 20 blocks), which blocks mob-farm abuse.
  • Specific worlds can be excluded.

💰 Rewards

  • Killing a levelled mob pays money through Vault, scaled by the mob's level (default: $1.0 per level).

💧 Thirst system

  • Active only for players with hardmode on, with a maximum of 4000 ml.
  • Thirst drains together with the hunger bar.
  • Refill it with water bottles (500 ml), potions (250 ml) or milk (250 ml), or with /ivas.
  • Optional actionbar thirst HUD, which needs the Thirst Bar resource pack (see Resource pack setup).

Requirements

  • Paper 1.21.8 or newer
  • Optional: Vault for money rewards
  • Optional: PlaceholderAPI for placeholders
  • Optional: Thirst Bar resource pack for the HUD

Installation

  1. Drop the FoxHardened .jar into your server's plugins/ folder.
  2. Restart the server.
  3. Set up the resource pack (see below) if you want the thirst HUD.
  4. Edit plugins/FoxHardened/config.yml to taste.
  5. Apply changes with /foxhardened reload.

Resource pack setup

The thirst HUD needs the Thirst Bar RP resource pack. The plugin does not send it to players, so you have to deliver it yourself. Choose one of the two options below.

Option A: ItemsAdder

  1. Put the Thirst Bar RP files into plugins/ItemsAdder/contents/foxhardened/resourcepack/, keeping the original structure (for example assets/minecraft/font/default.json and the textures).
  2. Run /iazip to regenerate the pack. ItemsAdder sends it to players on join.
  3. If another pack already changes assets/minecraft/font/default.json, merge the two files by hand, because only one of them will take effect otherwise.

Option B: server.properties

  1. Upload the Thirst Bar RP .zip to a direct download host.
  2. Set these in server.properties:
    resource-pack=https://example.com/ThirstBarRP.zip
    resource-pack-sha1=<sha1 of the zip>
    require-resource-pack=true

  3. Restart the server.

Without the pack, the HUD shows as missing or garbled characters. You can turn it off with thirst.hud.enabled: false.
