Using valkyrien skies allows for making realistic pirate ships, for a more realistic but overall fun expirience use vs sails, but for an easier one I reccomend vs eureka.

Using artifacts, dnt, and some of yungs mods add quite a few additonal structures to the world.

To get a much more pirate like expirience use the 'survival island' world setting, it allows for much more sparse islands in the minecraft world.
