Iris Player Depth Fix

Client-only fix for Iris on Minecraft 26.2 (Fabric & NeoForge).

With Iris, player skins are drawn as translucent. Opaque depth (depthtex1) is copied before those draws, then deferred shading runs. The player body is missing from that depth, so:

  • the sun and moon show through the player
  • Distant Horizons transparent water draws over the player

Cape and held items already use opaque paths — only the body skin is wrong.

What this mod does

Forces avatar getRenderType onto cutout, so the player writes depth with opaque geometry (alpha-tested holes still work).

Requirements

Minecraft 26.2
Loaders Fabric or NeoForge
Required Iris ≥ 1.11
Soft Distant Horizons (fixes the water-over-player case)

Also install Sodium (Iris depends on it) and, on Fabric, Fabric API.

Side effects

  • Outer skin layers become alpha-tested (harder edges) instead of soft-blended
  • Temporary workaround until Iris includes players in opaque depth correctly
