Overwind: Escalating Hardcore

A world that gets harder even when you're winning.

Overwind turns a hardcore Minecraft world into a long-running series format: on day 1, and every 7–10 days after that, a permanent modifier gets bolted onto the world a danger, a handicap, a world-warping effect, or occasionally a blessing and it stays until a later spin rotates it out. Alongside that, a 38-goal bucket list lives on Minecraft's real advancement system, and clearing enough of it earns you temporary blessings to offset the chaos you've built up.

Nobody controls the world. The wheel does.

How it works

The Wheel : the first spin fires the moment your world loads. Every spin after that schedules the next one 7–10 days later (randomized, not fixed, so the timing isn't perfectly predictable). The active modifier set grows until it hits a cap of 5, then each new spin retires the oldest one before adding a fresh one so the world keeps escalating early on, then holds at a sustained, ever-shifting level of chaos instead of becoming unplayable six months into a series.

The Spiral : your bucket list isn't a checklist bolted on top of the game, it's real Minecraft advancements: its own tab in the vanilla Advancements screen, complete with toasts, sitting next to the game's built-in tabs. 38 goals span boss kills, structure exploration, gear milestones, taming, and farming including a few cumulative-count goals (mine 64 diamonds, enchant 50 items total, survive 100 days) that track a running total even across deaths and inventory changes.

Milestone Blessings — every 3rd advancement you complete grants a random temporary blessing for about 10 in-game minutes: a brief reprieve, completely separate from and unaffected by the Wheel's permanent modifiers.

Features

  • 20 modifiers across Blessing / Handicap / Danger / World Effect categories
  • 38 advancement goals with a custom counter trigger for cumulative-count ones
  • A reroll system (one token to start) if the Wheel gives you a genuinely unplayable combo
  • A lightweight in-game HUD showing day count, active modifiers, and advancement progress
  • An optional local HTTP endpoint (localhost:9191/state.json, loopback-only) for an OBS stream overlay

Requirements

  • Fabric Loader 0.19.3+
  • Fabric API (required dependency)
  • Minecraft 26.2
  • Java 25

Works in singleplayer and on dedicated servers. The server needs the mod for any of this to function; clients can join without it and just won't see the HUD.
