QuietFarms

Keep busy mob farms productive without all the noise.

QuietFarms is a lightweight Minecraft server plugin that reduces sound from dense groups of mobs. When a farm becomes crowded, it keeps a small, stable number of mobs audible and silences only the excess.

Mobs are never removed, and QuietFarms does not change their AI, breeding, collisions, spawning, or other farm mechanics.

Features

  • Automatically quiets crowded mob farms
  • Keeps a configurable number of mobs audible
  • Supports individual rules for different mob types
  • Optional combined limits for mixed-mob farms
  • Protects named, tamed, leashed, and boss mobs
  • Supports world and entity blacklists or whitelists
  • Avoids rapid sound changes around the activation threshold
  • Restores mobs automatically when groups shrink or unload
  • Includes live configuration reloads and diagnostic commands
  • Does not load chunks or require a client-side mod

How it works

QuietFarms periodically examines mobs in already-loaded chunks and groups nearby mobs of the same type.

By default, a group activates when eight mobs are within eight blocks. Three remain audible while the excess are silenced. The group stays controlled until it falls below six mobs, preventing constant switching when its population sits near the threshold.

Every value can be configured globally or overridden for individual mob types.

Commands

  • /quietfarms status — View scan timing, active groups, and managed mobs
  • /quietfarms scan — Run an immediate scan
  • /quietfarms nearby [radius] — Inspect nearby mobs and their effective rules
  • /quietfarms toggle — Temporarily enable or disable QuietFarms server-wide
  • /quietfarms reload — Validate and reload the configuration

The short command alias is /qf.

Installation

  1. Download the QuietFarms JAR.
  2. Place it in your server’s plugins folder.
  3. Restart the server.
  4. Edit plugins/QuietFarms/config.yml if desired.
  5. Run /quietfarms reload after making changes.

No client mod or supporting plugin is required.
