The Astral Update - Phase 1 Starfall
No one agrees on what to call it. Some say it started with a light in the sky that didn't move like a star should. Others only remember the sound — a distant, rolling thunder that never fully stopped, not for weeks. Burning stone fell across the land like rain that refused to end, scarring hillsides, splitting forests, and turning the open sky into something no sailor or pilot dared trust. Whatever ruled the air above once was gone within days — ships grounded, routes abandoned, the sky grounds fell into chaos, the heavens themselves felt hostile. So the world went under. Villagers and wanderers alike packed into tunnels and hollows never meant to hold so many, sharing torchlight and rationed bread with strangers who, weeks prior, had been enemies or nobody at all. It went on so long that some stopped counting the days, although looking back at it, the event was not that long. And then, as suddenly as it began, it stopped. The fires died. The sky cleared. People climbed back to a surface that looked like home, mostly — but something underneath it had changed. The caves felt different at first. Then the mountains. Then, slowly, everywhere.
Strange new ores surfaced in familiar biomes — in mountain peaks, frozen oceans, volcanic badlands, and deep beneath the earth. No one knows why. No one knows what they are for. This is only the first step after the event.
What's New
Six new materials, three new playstyles. This is a vanilla-style expansion, not a total conversion — every material is built with classic 3×3 crafting, no new GUIs, no skill trees, just new gear with a distinct identity.
⛰️ Aetherite — The sky metal. Scattered across Jagged Peaks, Frozen Peaks, and Stony Peaks, waiting above Y 130 for those willing to climb that high. Light, fast, and built for altitude: Aetherite gear reduces fall damage, extends Elytra flight, and keeps you alive in the thin, hostile air of the high skylands (where the ground is a memory and every breath is a battle) when enchanted on Aetherite armor. This is the set you take to survive the harsh environment above the clouds.
🔮 Empyrium — The enchanter's metal. Buried deep in the Deep Dark, Dripstone Caves, Swamps, and other eerie corners of the world. Empyrium boasts the highest enchantability of any material in the game and passively boosts Efficiency and Protection while worn. On its own, it feels almost ordinary — a strange, dark curiosity that swings and blocks like any other metal. But bind an enchantment to it, and something in the metal seems to wake up, as if it was only ever waiting for a reason to answer. It behaves like a strange, unremarkable alternative to Diamond gear. Or does it?
💎 Sapphire, Pyrium & Luminite — Three biome-locked gemstones with no gear of their own. Their only purpose is to send you traveling: Sapphire to frozen places, Pyrium to scorched badlands, Luminite into glowing caves. Each one is a piece of a larger puzzle.
⚔️ Starsteel — The apex alloy. Forged, not mined. Combine Aetherite, Empyrium, Diamond, and all three gemstones in a single 3×3 crafting grid to produce a Starsteel Ingot — armor and tools that sit roughly 15–20% above Netherite across the board, with a passive Light Level 7 aura and total immunity to Darkness and Blindness. It's not a replacement for Netherite. It's what you make after you've already explored everything else the world has to offer. And once it's in your hands, it doesn't act like six ordinary materials fused together — it acts like something that was always meant to be whole, as if the world had been waiting for someone to finally put it back together.
What It Feels Like
Nothing here hands you power. It makes you earn a feeling — the held breath at Y=300 when you jump and hope the metal on your back does what the miners said it would. The quiet unease of an ore that shouldn't be this deep, glowing faintly cyan when everything about it should be violet. The moment your enchanting table hums differently than it ever has before, and you don't know why. Every set is a different kind of dread turned into a different kind of confidence.
What's Coming
This is only the beginning. What you're mining is debris — the leftovers of something far larger that hasn't been explained yet. Phase 2 goes looking for the source. Phase 3 asks the question you'll already be asking yourself by then: what if the metal in your inventory isn't finished changing?
