Shutters, open or closed, don't connect with Fences, Walls & Panes
Copper Shutters will age, and can be waxed
Iron Shutters can only be opened by being powered with Redstone. Powering any Shutter will power all connected Shutters
Acacia Shutters will, contrary to all other shutters, still let light through when closed
